METHOD FOR BREEDING A HYBRID PEPPER USING INTERSPECIFIC HYBRIDIZATION TO IMPROVE THE TOLERANCE TO ANTHRACNOSE OR POWDERY MILDEW OF THE HYBRID PEPPER

PURPOSE: A method for breeding a hybrid pepper using interspecific hybridization is provided, thereby improving the tolerance to anthracnose or powdery mildew of the hybrid pepper. CONSTITUTION: The method for breeding a hybrid pepper using interspecific hybridization comprises the steps of: (a) interspecific hybridizing Capsicum annuum as a seed parent plant with Capsicum baccatum to produce a hybrid pepper; (b) overcoming breeding incompatibility by using an embryo rescue method in which the unmatured seeds are pulled out from the fruits prior to the complete hardening of an endosperm after interspecific hybridization, and embryos in the unmatured seeds are obtained, and the embryos are in vitro cultured; and (c) breeding the hybrid pepper of step (a) as a seed parent plant with Capsicum annuum.
