PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical device that can be manufactured without hermetically sealing unit laminates at every unit laminate. SOLUTION: An electric double layer capacitor has a composite laminate 44 constituted by laminating a plurality of unit laminates 30A and 30B in each of which a separator layer 22 is held between a pair of electrode layers 20 and 24 by interposing a conductive current collecting body layer 40 between them and an external body which houses the composite laminate 44 in a hermetically sealed state. Side end faces 22a of the separator layers 22 contained in the unit laminates 30A and 30B adjoining each other through the current collecting body layer 40 are protruded longer than the side end faces 20a and 24a of the electrode layers 20 and 24 interposed between the separator layers 22 and 22. Protruded lengths Ls of the side end faces 22a of the separator layers 22 from the side end faces 20a and 24a of the electrode layers 20 24 are set to meet the inequality of Ls<(La+(Lc/2)) (wherein, La and Lc respectively denote the thickness of each electrode layer 20 and 24 and the thickness of the current collecting body layer 40 interposed between the electrode layers 20 and 24).
