PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can raise a carriage to a predetermined steady speed by a motor in a short time and in a short distance. SOLUTION: At the time of shifting the carriage from a stop state to a movement state of a predetermined speed by acceleration controlling a carriage driving motor, an acceleration b of the carriage driving motor is changed in a decreasing inclination from a time point Pb between a time point Pd where a periodic speed variation brought about at the carriage becomes maximum first and a time point where the variation becomes minimum next.
