<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an omnidirectional reflector which can increase the efficiency at which a primary light is converted into a secondary light for higher efficiency of light emitting equipment, and light emitting equipment having the omnidirectional reflector. <P>SOLUTION: This light emitting device consists of a light generating unit 51 which generates a primary light in a first wavelength range, a wavelength conversion member 4 which is coupled to the light generating unit 51 and converts a portion of the primary light into a secondary light in a second wavelength range, and at least one omnidirectional reflector 6 which comprises an omnidirectional photonic crystal coupled to the wavelength conversion member 4 and receives the secondary light and the remaining portion of the primary light that is not converted by the wavelength conversion member 4. The omnidirectional reflector 6 has a reflectiveness which substantially reflects all the remaining portion of the primary light, regardless of incident angle and polarization, and returns it to the wavelength conversion member 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
