PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select even a candidate which is determined to have only low recognition rate as a proper word by using a past conversation history etc. SOLUTION: A speech recognition apparatus is provided with: a speech recognizing means of receiving a speech signal and outputting a character or character string corresponding thereto as a recognition result; a speech recognition dictionary storage means of storing a language model of determining a candidate corresponding to the speech signal; a conversation database means of storing a plurality of pieces of topic specification information; a sentence analyzing means of analyzing the character or character string outputted from the speech recognizing means; and a conversation control means of storing the conversation history and acquiring an answer sentence according to the analysis results of the sentence analyzing means. The speech recognizing means has: a collating means of outputting a plurality of candidates by referring to the speech recognition dictionary storage means; and a candidate determining means of comparing topic specification information corresponding to the conversation history with the plurality of candidates outputted from the collating means by referring to the conversation database means and outputting a candidate as a recognition result according to comparison results.
