PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a belt fixing unit devised to suppress luster unevenness. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus that forms a toner image, transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, and fixes it to form an image of the fixed toner image on a recording medium is equipped with a fixing device which fixes the toner image transferred onto the recording medium on the recording medium, and this fixing device is equipped with a couple of belt members which clamp and convey the recording medium carrying the transferred toner image, a couple of heating and pressing members which heat and press the recording medium clamped by the couple of belt members at the clamping start position where the recording medium begins to be clamped by the couple of belt members, and a pressure control means of controlling the pressure applied to the recording medium by the heating and pressing members according to the kind of the recording medium used for image formation.
