PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially excellent method for producing a 4-pyridinethiols in a higher yield than those of conventional methods without using hydrogen sulfide which has a high toxicity and is hard to handle. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-pyridinethiols is provided by performing the reaction of 4-pyridyl pyridinium hydrohalogenated salts [e.g. a compound expressed by general formula (1) (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>are each H or a lower alkyl; and Hal is a halogen atom)] with an alkali metal hydrosulfide salt (e.g. sodium hydrosulfide, potassium hydrosulfide, etc.).
