Volatile organometallic gasoline additive - causing more complete combustion by in situ formation of catalytic oxide

Proportion of CO, nitrogen oxides and unburnt hydrocarbons in exhaust gases from an IC engine is decreased by adding to the gasoline a liquid organometallic complex (tricarbonyl methyl cyclopentadienyl manganese) whigh decomposes in the combustion chamber (to form catalytic oxides). Pref. 30-120 ppm. organometallic cpd. are added to gasoline.
