Purifying helium or argon - using palladium or rhodium adsorbents

Gases such as He or Ar contg. impurities, e.g. H2, O2, water vapour, or carbon oxides, are purified by contacting at ambient temp. with an adsorption mass consisting of a support carrying Pd and/or Rh. The adsorption mass may contain a molecular sieve e.g. type 13X, in which at least some Na is replaced by Pd and/or Rh. He or Ar may be purified as required when they are released from storage.
