The flat element used as a light protective fence, for example, consists of separate lattice elements (1,2) which are releasably interconnected (3) at their abutting contact surfaces. The vertical side frame section of each lattice element is constructed as an inwards orientated bend. The bends of two abutting frame sections of interconnecting lattice elements form a holder which is open at the top and more or less closed in the circumferential direction, and into which slides a connecting rod (4).
