As the centrifuge chamber becomes filled with swarf the entry to it from the main inlet becomes narrowed and the liquid is diverted through the bypass chamber which forms part of a resonant ultra sonic circuit with sensors which detect falling away from resonance as the liquid in the bypass exceeds a threshold value. These signals are used to actuate an axial door at the base of the centrifuge through which the swarf falls undfer gravity. This door at the same time closes the inlet to the centrifuge proper so that the liquid flows either through the bypass or into a second centrifuge chamber. Automatic self cleaning is achieved.
