Novel title cpds of formula: (where R1, R2, R3=H, lower alkyl, halo, methoxy with the exception of the case where all three are H) have bactericidal, fungicidal, antiprotozoal activity with low human toxicity. They are prepared by reaction of salicylaldehyde deriv. and halo-nitromethane in an alkaline aqs. or anhydrous organic medium.
