PURPOSE: A synchronization signal detecting apparatus and method are provided to stably receive digital broadcasting signals by preventing the field strength of a main path from being abruptly varied. CONSTITUTION: A synchronization signal detecting apparatus includes a correlator(100), an accumulative average value calculator(120), a comparator(110), and a maximum value detector(130). The correlator calculates a correlation value of reference pseudo noise stream information and a received digital broadcasting signal. The accumulative average value calculator obtains an accumulative average value for maximum correlation values output from the correlator in the unit of a predetermined section. The comparator compares the accumulative average value to the correlation value output from the correlator. When the maximum correlation value for each section is located at the same position more than a predetermined number of times, the maximum value detector generates a synchronization detection signal at the position. |
