Identifying doublets or multiplets arising from microseismic activity

Microseismic activity at two nearby locations (eg along a geological fault or fracture) gives rise to a doublet (i.e. a pair of events having a similar form but separated in time) in seismic traces acquired from two (or more) spatially separated receivers. An overall measure of the similarity of two events is determined based on the similarity of the two events in the trace from the first receiver and the similarity of the two events in the trace from the second receiver. The overall measure of similarity is compared to a threshold to determine whether the two events form a doublet.
