PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for editing data stream are provided to automatically perform an updating operation based on a decision matrix. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus edits the data stream having a first unique identifier of an identifier space and assigned metadata. The metadata includes meta information and a metadata link(114). The metadata link includes the first unique identifier and at least one data packet identifier. The apparatus includes an editor(116) for performing an editing operation on the data stream, an allocator(118) for assigning a second unique identifier of the identifier space to the data stream, a storing member for storing the first unique identifier as history data for a resolver(124), and a decision matrix(122) for updating the metadata link in accordance with the editing operation.
