PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus capable of removing foreign materials adhered to the surface of deflector roll without cutting of strip by installing a unit for pushing upper and lower strips to the upper and lower sides respectively and a unit for moving the unit toward the deflector roll, thereby forming a gap between the deflector roll and the strip. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for forming a gap on the surface of deflector roll comprises a pair of upper and lower driving chains(18a-18d) installed in upper and lower parts of a deflector roll(2) for changing a direction of threading strip(1) by an angle of 180 degrees in such a manner that the upper and lower driving chains are simultaneously driven; a pair of upper and lower operation links(8a-8d) which are respectively movably fixed to upper and lower parts of fixed bases(7a,7b,7d) inserted and fixed to the upper and lower driving chains, and to a lower part of which upper rolls(10) and lower rolls are attached in such a way that the strip passes through the upper rolls and the lower rolls; an "X" type upper and lower coupling links(11a,11b) fixed to moving grooves formed on the upper operation links(8a,8b) and movably fixed to the lower operation links(8c,8d); and reverse screw bars which are screw connected to fixing nuts inserted into streamlined guides of connection plates fixed to the upper and lower coupling links, and which are axially connected to an operation motor(12) installed on a support(12a) of the lower fixed base(7d).
