The building element, which is preferably a kerbstone, includes at least one re-entrant 22 or recess in at least one surface that acts to reduce the overall weight of the element. The re-entrant preferably extends in from the rear, in use, face 12 of the element so that it is not visible in use. The re-entrant preferably extends over the majority of the rear surface with the main face 24 that defines the re-entrant preferably being substantially flat. The side surfaces 32 which define the re-entrant are preferably angled relative to the main face which defines the re-entrant. A number of separate re-entrants may be formed in a single surface of the element and the re-entrant(s) may be located and/or shaped so as to alter the resistance to impact along the length of the building element. The sides which define the reentrant may comprise a number of stepped portions. A guide may be provided on the building element, preferably on the rear surface, to aid the laying of adjacent element comprising a projection, an indentation or a score line 34. Also claimed is a kerbstone and a method of forming a building element. |
