1298042 Cutting rod-like articles TWENTIETH CENTURY BLINDS PTY Ltd 4 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 57782/70 Headings B4B and B5L A machine for cutting rod-like articles into required lengths comprises a flywheel 9, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted on a machine base 7; drive means for rotating the flywheel; a cradle 12 in which an article 17 to be cut may be rested and held with its longitudinal axis substantially coincident with that of the flywheel; and a first order lever 26 fulcrumed on the flywheel so as to be pivotable in a plane normal to the flywheel axis, the lever carrying a knife 28 at one end and a weight 30 heavier than the knife at its other end. In the machine shown the workpiece 17 is supported in the cradle 12 with the portion to be cut off passing through apertures 16 in the flywheel 9 and a bearing 8 therefor. A pivoted clamping plate 18, Fig. 5, is lowered on to the workpiece and hand pressure exerted on a handle 21 pivoted at 22 to the plate 18. Movement of the handle 21, against the action of a spring 25, towards the plate 18 causes a microswitch 39, Fig. 1, carried by the plate 18 to be operated by a striker on the handle 21. This energizes an electric motor to drive the flywheel 9. Consequently the weight 30 is urged outwardly of the flywheel so that the knife 28, in this case a disc, cuts into the workpiece. The machine may include a tape measure 36. The position of the cradle 12 may be adjustable. The machine may be used to cut rollerblinds or rollers therefor, cardboard tubes or timber. |
