PURPOSE: A flat panel scanning unit is provided to furnish a lightweight carriage from which a light source is separated, thereby capable of operating at a high speed and of enhancing reliability in operation. CONSTITUTION: A flat panel scan unit body(B) includes a document loading member(1). The first and second carriages(10,20) having reflective mirrors and for performing the forward and backward movement with different speed ratios are mounted to a lower portion of the document loading member in order to scan the document laid on the document loading member. A lens housing(30) forms an image of the document through the first and second carriages. A light source(110) is mounted to the flat panel body, at a position adjacent to the lens housing, and irradiates light to the document through reflective mirrors oppositely mounted to the inside of the first and second carriages. A power supply(13) is mounted to the flat panel scan body and supplies power to the light source.
