PURPOSE: A system and a method for chatting using real-time animation of a graphic image representing a user are provided to enable a chatter to chat with a counter part chatter in a state similar to a real space by using the animation of the graphic image representing the user. CONSTITUTION: A server(302) includes the first database for storing information of each client(306,308,310), the second database for storing the graphic images representing the client, and a chatting process controller transmitting the graphic images to the clients and controlling a chatting process by responding to a chatting request from each client. The client includes a communication tool for communicating with the server and other clients, and a computer-readable recording medium. The recording medium implements a chatting engine(310-1) for performing the chatting, and a character engine(310-2) for controlling the graphic images received from the server and the animation of the graphic images by a communication message during the chatting.
