A network node 100 comprises classifiers and schedulers arranged hierarchically in two or more layers. A first layer comprises one or more parent classifiers 51, 56 and parent schedulers 52, 57. A second layer comprises further classifiers 60, 65, 70, 75 and schedulers 62, 67, 72, 77. A node provider NP may grant access rights for components in the second layer, e.g. a user SP(A1) may be allowed to configure classifier(A1) 60, multiple queue(A1) 61 and scheduler(A1) 62. The parent classifier(A) 51 dispatches incoming data owned by SP(A1) to classifier(A1) 60. The parent scheduler(A) outputs data from scheduler(A1) 62 to an outside network. Therefore, input and output data flows are controlled by NP through the parent classifiers 51, 56 and parent schedulers 52, 57. The output bandwidth assigned to a user is fixed, regardless of configuration of the second layer components, some of which may be owned by other users SP(A2) or SP(B1) or SP(B2). A user can therefore configure certain node components without approval or intervention from NP, facilitating partitioning of node components between multiple users.

|
