<p>Machine for quenching coke by a wet method as it leaves the coke oven and for stabilising it before it is deposited on a conveyor, provided with an arrangement for drawing away and washing the fume, gas and steam before discharge to atmosphere, comprises (a) a lock chamber, placed in front of the coke guide fitted at the oven outlet, and provided with retractable cheeks engaging the coke guide, and mounted on a platform which can be displaced along rails; (b) a quenching shaft into which coke is guided by the lock chamber, having a bottom consisting of a rotating base plate on which the coke is deposited in successive layers, and a lateral discharge door through which the coke is expelled by a discharge plough, so as to flow progressively via a chute onto a conveyor, and (c) spray nozzles for quenching the coke and suction ducts for drawing away fume, gases and steam and discharging them to atmosphere after washing, provided both in the lock chamber and the quench shaft.</p> |
