[Also in Division G3] Thread 9 is wound on to a rotating bobbin 1 by means of a bow shaped member or flyer 4, which rotates in the reverse direction to that of the bobbin and which straddles the bobbin and conducts the thread thereto through a passage 5. The linear speed of feeding the thread 9 is then equal to the sum of the rotational speeds of the bobbin 1 and bow 4 multiplied by the cumference of the package 2. A compressed air nozzle 10 is employed to blow the thread into the guide passage 5 and the nozzle 10 is swivelable so that when winding has to be interrupted, e.g. for bobbin changing, the nozzle may be turned as indicated to blow the thread into a funnel 14 and suitable collecting means so that the feed of thread is not interrupted. The speed of rotation of the bobbin may be controlled as the package grows, through electronic control means 13 operating in conjunction with a tension sensing device 12 to give the required tension or to match the desired feed rate of the thread. The bobbin may be reciprocated vertically by hydraulic means 11, the stroke being variable to form a package of the required shape. Rotation of the bow imparts a measure of twist to the thread which is stated to be advantageous in the case of threads of synthetic material. Since the winding of the thread is effected both by rotation of the bow 4 and by rotation of the bobbin 1 high winding speeds can be attained without running the bobbin at speeds which would result in badly formed packages owing to the effects. of centrifugal forces on the threads. The invention is stated to be of particular value in the high speed winding of synthetic thread which has been stretched after the spinning process and which may be fed at speeds up to 6000 metres/min. |
