The polycarbonate may be one prepared by the reaction of a dihydric phenol, optionally in admixture with a glycol, with a carbonic acid derivative, optionally with a dicarboxylic acid, and may have an average molecular weight of at least 10;000. The pigment which may be present in the polycarbonate in a proportion of 0À05-5% by weight may be prepared by the addition of an aqueous suspension of zinc oxide to an aqueous suspension of the titanium dioxide followed by filtering and calcination, the dry ground pigment being formed into an aqueous suspension to which are added aqueous solutions of disodium hydrogen phosphate and aluminium sulphate, the aluminium phosphate being precipitated by adjusting the pH to 7À5-7À7 by the addition of aqueous sodium hydroxide and the treated pigment then being filtered off, washed, dried and finely milled. In examples the pigment is incorporated into a polycarbonate having a relative viscosity of 1À3 as measured on a 0À5% by weight solution in methylene chloride at 25‹C. and prepared by the reaction of bisphenol A and phosgene or diphenyl carbonate, through an extruder, the composition being reduced to a granulate and injection moulded.</p> |
