PURPOSE: An electric double layer capacitor is provided to achieve the capacitor having excellent electrical properties and stability by aligning unit cells in a stable manner of piled unit cells. CONSTITUTION: An electric double layer capacitor comprises a cell stacked structure including a pair of cells(17) with unit cells(11) stacked into layers; lead terminals(19a,19b) electrically connected to an individual collector(15) of the cell stacked structure; and a packing coat(20) for sealing the cell stacked structure. Each of unit cells includes a pair of polarized electrodes(12) impregnated with an electrolyte; an ion permeable separator(13) interposed between the polarized electrodes; a base collector(14) and the individual collector(15) contacting respective outer surfaces of the electrodes; and a gasket(16) fixed between edges of the base collector and the individual collector so as to prevent movement of the electrodes and leakage of electrolyte. The unit cells are serially stacked into layers, such that the base collector of one unit cell contacts the base collector of the other unit cell. The base collectors contacting with each other are obtained by bending a plane collector sheet and connected with each other.
