FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely manufacture of powder wire. ^ SUBSTANCE: method for making powder wire with diameter 2 - 8 mm comprises steps of imparting to metallic belt V-shaped profile; then forming U-shaped profile with the same height of vertical walls from V-shaped one; filling prepared U-shaped blank with powder filler; then in next stands forming tubular blank with overlap of edges of envelope; forming lock lap joint and reducing blank. Geometry parameters are strictly normalized at shaping belt. Enhanced accuracy of geometry parameters allows to make high-quality ready articles. Simple lock joint and the same height of vertical walls allow using of simple -configuration rolls. ^ EFFECT: improved quality of ready powder wire. ^ 8 dwg, 6 tbl
