FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing aromatic sulfones that can be sued as monomers for thermostable polymers. Sulfones are prepared by the sulfonation reaction of aromatic hydrocarbons with pyrosulfonates obtained preliminary by interaction of SO3 and arenesulfoacid methyl or ethyl esters or sulfuric acid. The sulfonation reaction is carried out in medium containing (C1-C2)-halide alkanes, nitrobenzene or nitromethane at temperature 20-60oC for 1-3 h. The stage for preparing pyrosulfonates is carried out preferably in medium containing (C1-C2)-halide alkanes, nitrobenzene or nitromethane at temperature 0-75oC for 0.25-1 h. Nitrobenzene, nitromethane or (C1-C2)-halide alkanes are used in the concentration 2-5 ml/1 g of hydrocarbon or sulfoacid ester.
