PURPOSE: A method for controlling a screen of a monitor or a video device using a resolution of a video card is provided to display a normal screen for output of the specified video card by detecting and properly scaling the different input resolution due to a deviation of a video card company on the monitor or the video device. CONSTITUTION: Resolution information is obtained by detecting a horizontal/vertical synchronized signal of an input signal(S10). It is searched that a user mode is set(S20). In case that the user mode is set, an optimal mode is selected from the modes stored in a nonstandard mode table based on the resolution information(S30). In the case that no user mode is set, the optimal mode is selected from the modes stored in a standard mode table(S58).
