PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method are provided to obtain the same output in regions using different frequency bands, even without changing part components. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a frequency sensing unit(100) for sensing the frequency of an input AC power; and a control unit(200) for controlling on/off duty ratio of a magnetron(12) of a microwave oven in accordance with the AC power sensed by the frequency sensing unit. The frequency sensing unit is constituted by a frequency relay or a frequency sensing circuit. A method comprises a step of sensing the frequency of an input AC power; a step of driving a magnetron of a microwave oven for a preset time period, if the sensed frequency is a first frequency; and a step of turning on/off the magnetron by a predetermined cycle in accordance with the corresponding frequency, if the sensed frequency is not a first frequency.
