METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING VIRTUAL PROTOCOL INTERLAYER BETWEEN TWO PROTOCOL LAYERS IN COMMUNICATION STACK

PURPOSE: A method and a system for providing a virtual protocol interlayer are provided to handle the growing complexity by providing a virtual protocol interlayer between two protocol layers. CONSTITUTION: A multi-layer protocol of a communication environment supporting the multi-layer protocol includes an upper protocol layer and a lower protocol layer. A method for providing a protocol interlayer operating logically between the upper protocol layer and the lower protocol layer includes a receiving process, a processing process, and a delivering process. The receiving process is performed to receive data from the upper protocol layer. The data includes a destination interlayer address. The processing process is performed to process the received data. The processing process includes a process for placing the destination interlayer address in an interlayer header(1104), a process for adding the interlayer header to the data, and a process for adding a destination lower layer address to the data. The delivering process is performed to deliver the processed data to the lower protocol layer.
