PURPOSE: A method for driving an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to remove an unnecessary brightness loss due to a reaction delay between an odd frame and an even frame. CONSTITUTION: An odd frame including an initial start frame(the first frame) is sequentially divided into a black data inserting period(black image period)(I), a liquid crystal holding period(real image period)(II) and a backlight off period(black image period)(III). An even frame is sequentially divided into the backlight off period(III), a liquid crystal holding period(II) and a black data inserting period(I). The black data inserting period(I), the liquid crystal holding period(II) and the backlight off period(III) are divided with a specific ratio on the basis of time. The black data inserting period(I) and the backlight off period(III) are divided with the same size. On the basis of unit frame, at the black data inserting period(I), the black data are inserted by reset of a gate line and a real image is displayed as it is, at the liquid crystal holding period(II), and the corresponding lamp of a backlight device is turned off at the backlight off period(III).
