PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting system of an internal combustion engine, suppressing increase in size of an engine body, high in degree of freedom in selection of a lubricating means, and reducing modifying magnitude when the starting system is applied to the existing engine. SOLUTION: In the starting system 4 of an internal combustion engine, rotation of a starting motor 6 is transmitted to a crankshaft 7 through a gear train 8. The starting system 4 is detachably disposed to the outside of a front face of the engine body 2. A crank gear 14 included in the gear train 8 is disposed outside of a crank pulley 21 around which a belt 3 for driving accessories is wound.
