<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expanded graphite ring gland packing having good sealing performance in a high temperature region with low fastening force while securing its soundness and long life, and to provide a seal mechanism for a steam valve. <P>SOLUTION: A packing body 5 is formed in a ring shape with knitting yarns 4 braided by stainless fine wires 3 for covering the outer periphery of an expanded graphite tape 2 and further braided in plural number.
