PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device capable of decreasing the variation range of a current value caused by the variation in the resistance value of the magnetoresistive head itself. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording and reproducing device 1 is equipped with a transistor 12 which is inputted with a bias voltage (V<SB>b-</SB>), a transistor 13 which is inputted with a bias voltage (V<SB>b+</SB>) higher than V<SB>b-</SB>, the magnetoresistive head 11 which is connected with both ends of the transistors 12 and 13, a constant current circuit 5 which is connected to the juncture of the transistor 12 and the magnetoresistive head 11, a variable current circuit 7 which is connected to the juncture of the transistor 13 and the magnetoresistive head 11, and a feedback circuit 6 which controls the current of the variable current circuit 7 according to the differential voltages (V<SB>1</SB>and V<SB>2</SB>) outputted by converting the currents of the transistors 12 and 13.
