PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorus removal apparatus which can easily and quantitatively predict a deterioration in phosphorus removal due to rainfall. SOLUTION: This phosphorus removal apparatus has a first settling basin into which sewage flows, a biological reaction tank having an anaerobic tank and an aerobic tank into which the sewage treated in the first settling basin flows, and a second settling basin into which the sewage from the biological reaction tank flows. In addition, this apparatus has a water temperature meter, a total nitrogen analyzer and a pH meter for measuring the water quality of the sewage which has flowed into the first settling basin, a rainfall meter installed in the treatment area of the phosphorus removal apparatus, and an arithmetic unit which calculates the concentration of acetic acid based on the measured data of the water temperature meter, the total nitrogen analyzer, the pH meter, and the rainfall meter, and calculates a recovery period required for the acetic acid concentration diluted by rainfall to reach a prescribed concentration, as a rainfall influence index.
