The invention provides a human R35 which is associated with the hematological diseases, disorders of the peripheral and central nervous system (eg. Alzheimer), cardiovascular diseases, urological diseases (eg. Prostate BPH), cancer diseases (eg. Esophagus tumor, stomach tumor), gastrointestinal diseases and inflammatory diseases (eg. Ileum chronic inflammation, liver cirrhosis). The invention also provides assays for the identification of compounds useful in the treatment or prevention of hematological diseases, disorders of the peripheral and central nervous system, cardiovascular diseases, urological diseases, cancer diseases, gastrointestinal diseases and inflammatory diseases. The invention also features compounds which bind to and/or activate or inhibit the activity of R35 as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds.
