PURPOSE: Provided are an electrolyte composition and a lithium secondary battery containing the composition which shows excellent overcharge stability and has excellent cycle characteristic. CONSTITUTION: The electrolyte composition comprises a lithium salt and an organic acid as a main component, and a halogenated toluene as an additive. Preferably the halogenated toluene is fluorotoluene or chlorotoluene, and its content is 1-30 wt%. Preferably the lithium salt is selected from the group consisting of LiPF6, LiAsF6, LiClO4, LiN(CF3SO2)2, LiBF4, LiCF3SO3 and LiSbF6, and its concentration in the organic solvent is 0.5-2.0 M. |
