PURPOSE: A method for estimating the location of a mobile terminal in a packet-based mobile network is provided to efficiently transmit packet data by estimating the location of a mobile terminal at the minimum of error. CONSTITUTION: A base station stores an actual time delay value for the Nth packet transmitted to a mobile terminal most recently(S301). The base station calculates an error compensation value by using the relation between the correlation values for the actual time delay values of the first to Nth packets and the estimated time delay values(S302). The base station estimates mobile speed in order to transmit the (N+1)th packet to the mobile terminal(S303). Then the base station estimates the direction of the mobile terminal(S304). Based on a correlation value for the actual time delay value of the (N+1)th packet data and the estimated time delay value, the base station calculates the error(S305).
