PURPOSE: A method for detecting overlapped multimedia contents is provided to prevent contents which are already stored or downloaded from being retransmitted, when downloading the contents by using a VOD or AOD function, thereby preventing a waste of contents charges. CONSTITUTION: When new contents are downloaded, original file information stored in a terminal is read(202), and the read file information is compared with newly downloaded file information(203). If the compared information is the same, a system confirms whether a newly downloaded file is received(205). If so, the system outputs a message showing that the file is once downloaded and deleted on the first or second display of the terminal(206). If the file is not deleted, the system outputs a message showing that the same file information exists on the display(207).
