PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image failure resulting from peeling discharge that takes place when a transfer medium with an unfixed toner image held on it is separated from a transfer belt and fixing explosion that takes place when the toner image is fixed. SOLUTION: By using a transfer corona electrifier 16, a toner image formed on a photoreceptor drum 1 is transferred to a transfer medium P held on the transfer belt 11. A corona electrifier 17 that imparts charges to a toner image is disposed between a transfer part T and a separation part S. When the transfer medium P is separated from the transfer belt 11, a separation bias having the opposite polarity of the toner image on the transfer medium P is applied to a drive roller (separation roller) 12. In addition, before the separation of the transfer medium P, charges having the same polarity as that of the toner image is applied to the toner image by the corona electrifier 17. Thus, since the toner image is held on the transfer medium P with strong force, image failure resulting from peeling discharge and fixing explosion can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
