A process for the preparation of platy precipitated calcium carbonate comprising the steps of providing a suspension of calcium hydroxide, carbonating the suspension of calcium hydroxide, adding a polyacrylate to th e suspension prior to the completion of carbonation to precipitate platy calci um carbonate. Also provided are a paper that is filled and a paper that is coat ed using the platy precipitated calcium carbonate according to the present invention.
