PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an editing device and an editing method capable of remarkably improving an editing efficiency. SOLUTION: The editing device for executing editing processing in conformity to an editing list stipulating editing contents is provided with first and second data retaining means for each retaining video data representing edited materials forming the editing contents in image formats of a high resolution and a low resolution, a selecting means for selecting the video image representing the edited materials into any one of the image formats of either a high resolution and a low resolution in response to an external operation, and a reproducing means for reproducing the video data in the image format of a high resolution or a low resolution which is selected by the selecting means when the edited materials are selected at the time of creating the editing list.
