PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method which enables the objective measurement of beauty of a skin, and which enables the beauty of the skin to be evaluated as in the case of observation with the naked eye. SOLUTION: Characteristically, this method for evaluating the beauty of the skin comprises: a process (1) wherein the target skin is imaged under polarized lighting so that digital image data can be obtained; a process (2) wherein the same target skin is imaged for the obtainment of the digital image data by using a polarizing filter with a plane of polarization, orthogonal to a plane of polarization of the polarized lighting, under the polarized lighting; a process (3) wherein data on a mirror-reflected light component are extracted from the digital image data obtained in the processes (1) and (2); a process (4) wherein the data on the mirror-reflected light component, obtained in the process (3), are subjected to multi-resolution analysis and separated into data on a plurality of different frequency components, so that a plurality of high-frequency component data can be selected; a process (5) wherein selected high-frequency components are merged so as to be turned into reconstructed image data; a process (6) wherein the dispersion of respective pixel components is determined in terms of the reconstructed image data; and a process (7) wherein an average value from values of the dispersion obtained in the process (6) is associated with the beauty of the skin.
