The invention relates to a method and system for determining the decoding complexity for decoding coded block-based video data streams, to the use of said method, corresponding computer program product and to a computer-readable recording medium which is usable, in particular for reducing the electricity consumption by the processors of mobile terminals. For this purpose, the type of blocks contained in the video data stream and a number describing the frequency of occurrence of each block type, are determined at least approximately, the blocks being assigned to each block type. Afterwards, the decoding complexity for decoding a video data stream is determined by evaluating the frequency of occurrence of block types. |
