The invention relates to a method of stunning animals (A) prior to killing by bleeding, using an anaesthetic gas. The inventive method comprises the following steps: a group of animals (A) are directed towards a stunning chamber (2); the animals (A) in the group are herded into the stunning chamber (2) essentially simultaneously; the stunning chamber (2) is closed in a leaktight manner (2); an anaesthetic gas is released into the stunning chamber for a determined period of time, such that the animals are rendered unconscious; the gas is removed from the stunning chamber (2); the chamber (2) is opened; and the animals (A) are taken out of the chamber such that a new group of animals can be brought in and stunned. |
