<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a diaphragm suitable for a direct methanol fuel cell by way of a cation-exchange membrane with a hydrocarbon polymer as a base material, not a fluorine-containing polymer such as a perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid film. <P>SOLUTION: The diaphragm for a fuel cell, suitable for a direct methanol fuel cell, is made of a hydrocarbon system cation-exchange membrane with cation-exchange resin existing in pores of a porous film of a hydrocarbon polymer, with a film resistance in 3 mol/L sulfuric acid aqueous solution of 0.005 to 0.6 Ωcm<SP>2</SP>, preferably 0.01 to 0.5 Ωcm<SP>2</SP>, a bursting strength of 0.08 MPa or more, preferably 0.1 MPa or more, and a methanol transmittance at 25°C of 30 to 1,500g/m<SP>2</SP>/hr. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
