PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a housing for an optical component and a projector capable of preventing noise from being caused and sufficiently cooling an optical modulator. SOLUTION: A cylindrical duct 6A is housed in the optical component housing part 51B of a lower light guide 51 so as to make cooling air for cooling a liquid crystal panel 441 housed and fixed inside flow. The duct 6A is equipped with a base part on which the panel 441 is fixed and whose cross section is nearly L-shaped and a cover part whose cross-section is nearly inverted L-shaped, and its expansion rate is≥4.0×10<SP>-6</SP>K and≤17.0×10<SP>-6</SP>K and its heat conductivity is≥180W/m×K and≤390W/m×K.
