PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for a spark ignition type engine capable of making uniform the propagation of flames inside the combustion chamber and suppressing knocking effectively. SOLUTION: The engine is furnished in its combustion chamber with first ignition devices 6, 10, 11, 12 and with second ignition devices 7, 8, 9 on the side nearer the suction port than the first ignition devices 6, 10, 11, 12. A controller 15 performs ignition of the mixture gas in the combustion chamber using the first combustion devices and the second combustion devices, when the ignition timing of the second 7, 8, 9 is advanced in the angle from the ignition timing of the first 6, 10, 11, 12.
