PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain thin-wall maraging steel having sufficiently improved surface hardness by nitriding itself, and having superior abrasion resistance and bending fatigue strength by inhibiting formation of a white layer such as Fe<SB>2</SB>N on the surface. SOLUTION: This nitriding method comprises the steps of: heating the thin-wall maraging steel 1 in the controlled atmosphere of ammonia gas and nitrogen gas; keeping the thin-wall maraging steel of a heated state, in the controlled atmosphere containing oxygen of 100 to 1,000 ppm in addition to the ammonia gas and the nitrogen gas, for 5 to 10 minutes; and nitriding the thin-wall maraging steel of the heated state, in the controlled atmosphere of the ammonia gas and the nitrogen gas.
