PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change type passenger conveyor capable of operating at an optimum operation speed according to increase and decrease of the number of actual users while reducing a burden of a manager by automatically changing the operation speed. SOLUTION: User number detecting devices 20a, 20b are installed near an entrance and an exit, and detection values are transferred to a user increase and decrease judging circuit 21 connected with a control part 13. The user increase and decrease judging circuit 21 judges increase and decrease of the user based on the detection values of the user number detecting devices 20a, 20b.
